Improving focus and attention

Cogmed is an evidence based program for improving attention. For many prems, problems with learning do not become apparent until they are in school. This may be because of the increased demands of the modern classroom and/or that it is the first time they are formally assessed against peers. The skills of focus and attention, for example, are critical to learning. Being able to focus, hold, and work with information in mind, filter distractions, and have flexibility of mind are all necessary skills in the modern world. These lifelong skills develop in infancy and continue to develop into adolescence. Like targeted exercises for physical skills, there are specific activities that can develop these mental skills. ReadyStepGrow provides support to families of school-aged prems if challenges with focus, attention and memory are of ongoing concern, parents may wish to consider Cogmed Working Memory Training which is shown to improve these skills.

Memory, Focus And Attention Skills (Cogmed Working Memory Training)

Cogmed working memory training is an evidenced-based program shown to improve working memory, attention and focus. Inattention and problem behaviour is common following preterm birth, but the underlying nature of these difficulties is not well known. There is a growing body of evidence that shows reduced working memory capacity may be the underlying cause of learning difficulties for children in school.

What is involved?

Training sessions are completed online in your own home at a time that is convenient to you.

The program exposes the user to a series of exercises that train Working Memory.

It provides 3000 opportunities where the user needs to: Focus, Wait, Remember and 'Have a go' at specifically targeted working memory exercises.

An inbuilt algorithm ensures the user trains Working Memory at and beyond current capacity at every moment.

Cogmed is hard work and intensive because there is no compromise on what it takes to improve the workings of the brain.
